RESOURCES
for Living With Rare Disease
Living with a rare disease can feel isolating and overwhelming. The Pfizer Patient Affairs Liaison (PAL) team has put together resources that can be accessed anytime for more information.
Acromegaly
Acromegaly is a rare disease, usually carried by a benign (non-cancerous) tumor, or growth, on the pituitary gland. The pituitary gland is a tiny organ in the brain. It makes many hormones, including growth hormone (GH). When someone has acromegaly, the tumor on the pituitary gland causes the levels of GH to rise. High GH levels can lead to the production of too much insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I), which leads to signs and symptoms of acromegaly. Signs and symptoms can include joint pain; headaches; swelling of the hands, feet, and face; increased ring size; fatigue; and sweating.
