RESOURCES
for Living With Rare Disease
Living with a rare disease can feel isolating and overwhelming. However, the Pfizer Patient Affairs Liaison (PAL) team has put together a variety of resources that can be accessed anytime for more information.
ATTR-CM (transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis)
ATTR-CM is a rare and serious type of amyloidosis. It is not recognized or diagnosed as often as it should be. ATTR-CM affects the heart and is associated with heart failure. ATTR-CM can be caused by aging (wild-type) or inherited (hereditary). The liver produces transthyretin, a protein that carries the hormone thyroxine and vitamin A through the blood. When someone has ATTR-CM, the protein becomes unstable and misfolds. Over time, the misfolded proteins join together and build up in the body, including in the heart (causing the heart muscle to thicken and stiffen, eventually leading to heart failure).
